No doubt. Shystie is one of the coldest UK emcees we have right now. She has been a little quiet on the scene but this year she has been back with a vengeance after dropping mixtape “Blue Magic” and featuring on the soundtrack for new UK movie “sket”. We checked in with Shystie to find all about her movements.

“Blue Magic” really created a lot of buzz. How many downloads are there to date?

SHYSTIE: To date there is 37,000 downloads, not including other websites which have it up. So I’m really happy with the response.

There must be an album dropping soon. When is it out?

SHYSTIE: The album’s on the way, I’m in the process of building it, release date TBC. At the moment I’m concentrating on building back my fan base and creating my buzz. It’s all about shows, mix tapes, videos, vlogs, features and singles. When the time’s right the album will drop and it’s gonna be a classic. As long as people can see I’m active and giving them new material, that’s all that matters to me right now.

UK urban films and dramas seem to be really hitting hard and hitting home about some serious issues our youth encounter on a day to day basis. More recently “Top Boy”. Do you feel that these productions help or hinder our awareness and understanding of the real issues in the street?

SHYSTIE: I think the recent production of ‘Top Boy’ is a reflection of society and doesn’t hinder our awareness at all. In fact I think it highlighted some really good issues that alot of the demographic could relate to. I think there needs to be more of these series on TV, so the people that can help can get a clearer understanding of what needs to be done to fix the arising problems.

Tell us about your involvement with the “SKET” movie?

SHYSTIE: I contributed four of my songs towards the film SKET and was also asked to do the theme track for it. I got into studio with my producers Pjam and LZ Beats and also my manager Chris, we had four days to make the song which we did and got Ghetts and Nolay to feature on it too. Then the following week we had to shoot a video for it, which had a great response and up to date over 50,000 views.

Acting is obviously a passion of yours; will we be seeing you in any new films/TV shows anytime soon?

SHYSTIE: I love acting and can’t wait to jump back into it. I recently was a part of a short film called ‘Illegal Activity’ directed by Sebastian Thiel (Kingdom Entertainment), which will be out in 2012. I saw the trailer for it at a screening I went to and it looks so good, so I can’t wait to see that. Other than that, I will be getting into allot more acting next year and beyond definitely.

Which UK artists are you bumping right now?

SHYSTIE: I listen to a lot of beats by producers Pjam and LZ Beats, their music is very on point, and artists I listen to are Shakka, Daley, Adele and Lioness.

Any collabs in the pipeline?

SHYSTIE: I’m working with alot of artist at the moment. Jamelia, Starboy Nathan, Ratlin, Frisco, Fekky Bars and Black the Ripper.

What’s in store for 2012?

SHYSTIE: 2012, I’m just going to be working harder than ever, putting out constant new music and making sure I’m everywhere. Look out for my NEW mix tape ‘PINK MIST’ dropping in February. I’ve also worked with some producers called ‘Time Takers’ on a few songs and one that’s getting radio play at the minute called ‘Move’ so keep your ears open for that. Other than that just expect to hear my name alot for the New Year.
