THE DOPPELGANGAZ: Cloaks NOT Capes
Pages: 1 2
If you are not onto these dudes yet… You’re SLEEPIN! Their sound is very east coast with a hint of ‘socio-path’ thrown in for good measure. The Doppelgangaz lyrical capabilities are evident from each and every track on their “Lone Sharks” album, plus they produce their own beats!
The production on each and every one of their tracks is impeccable. Reminiscent of the ’90′s. A true hip hop head cannot deny the talents of this perfect hip hop pairing. If the lyrics are a little too edgy from you, you’ll enjoy the ill beats for sure! One of my favourite albums of 2011.
Rawroots.com couldn’t wait to get this interview! Make sure y’all cop the album too!
You will not be disappointed!!!
Who are “The Doppelgangaz” and where do you hail from?
Matter ov Fact: The Doppelgangaz are Matter ov Fact and Ep and we hail from Orange County, NY. Both our fams moved to the 845 from the Bronx, NY. Me when I was 5 years old, E when he was younger. Glad things worked out the way they did.
“The Doppelgangaz” is a very interesting moniker. What made you decide on choosing this?
EP: Well a doppelganger is a ghostly twin and since Fact and I look identical we figured the name fit well. We’ve been told we look a like. I mean, I see the resemblance. At it’s essence, it really means that mentally and musically we are on identical wavelengths. We just see the world in the same manner and approach our craft with the same mind state. When he said I like dumpster diving, hitting up brothels and sharking, I said “What, me too brah!”.
What the deal with the “Cloaks not Capes”?
EP: A cloak has a hood and a cape… not so much. We don cloaks passed down by the Rap Lords. They represent the holiness of this majestic sport. We’re not superheroes, hence us not rocking capes. We’re cloaked out, living this black cloak lifestyle to the death. Feel meh?
“Lone Sharks” is FIRE. What was the process like during the recording this album and where did your inspiration come from?
Matter ov Fact: Thanks for the kind words kehd. The recording process was very organic. Lone Sharks is a direct reflection of how we were feeling at the moment. We’re definitely the type of people to take a mental note of just about everything, so inspiration can come from many different places and strike at any time.
Growing up, what was the first hip hop album you purchased?
Matter ov Fact: Damn I forgot my first album purchase. I distinctly remember my cousin buying me wu tang forever when it dropped though. I was like 10 years old at the time. That was one of the best gifts I’ve ever received.
